The new Regional Innovation Startup Center at the Cultural Center in Cacak, has opened within the Science-Technology Park, which has existed since 2014.
The opening was attended by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, who said that young engineers were the future of Serbia, and that their innovations would push the country forward.
She pointed out that a call opened that day for all interested teams to apply to be residents of the startup center, where they will be provided with modern technological equipment and education about business development and intellectual property protection.
– The idea is for the building for the Park in Cacak to be either built or reconstructed, where all the IT companies from this part of Serbia would operate in a single place in order to facilitate the sharing of ideas and to make them more competitive in the market – Brnabic said.
In addition to the Park in Cacak, there is also the Science-Technology Park in Belgrade, which opened in 2015 and where 70 companies operate with 700 engineers. Another two science-technology parks are being built in Novi Sad and Nis, the prime minister said.
– In addition to this, we will also develop startup centers in other cities, thanks to the talent and the potential of our young engineers. Pirot, Subotica, Zrenjanin, Krusevac and many other cities will get startup centers as well, and they will all be connected so that they can exchange knowledge, which will then be offered to Europe and the world.
The minister without a portfolio in charge of innovations and technological development, Nenad Popovic, said that the opening of the startup center was a way of keeping young people in the country.
Mayor of Cacak Milun Todorovic said that the Government of Serbia had invested RSD 46 million in the Science-Technology Park up till then, whereas the local self-government had set aside RSD 10 million. Around 50 companies operate here, employing 500 talented young people, around 70% of which have university degrees.
– The new startup center will act as an encouragement for innovative teams to realize their business ideas, whereas the modern equipment will help them follow the Industry 4.0 trends – said the Park's director, Mirko Pesic.
