The municipal commission for facilities leasing has released a tender today for collection bids for the rent of the castle in Beocin.
The Beocin municipality is renting acastle on 50 years with a note that it has not been used since 1988 as well as that it was announced to be the Cultural monument in 1997.
Thus, one of the most beautiful castles of Vojvodina, a former home of the Edo Spitzer family, one of the owners of Beocin cement plant, built in 1890, is togo under hammer. For almost a quarter of the century, this great building, built between two centuries with almost all construction movements, from romantic, renaissance, baroque, has been in a very bad condition and it is only a matter of time when it will completely demolish.
For years, it has been called "the house of owls and bats", and it used to be a library, a cultural center and the first radio in Beocin started broadcasting there. By the end of the last century, it was an exclusive restaurant with an overnight say where foreign hunters used to stay.
After privatization of Podunavlje, which was renting it, it remained empty and started ruining.
Former attractive castle used to attract many movie producers and directors. Thus, Clint Eastwood and Emir Kusturica filmed here. A German businessman,Claus Weiss was the last one interested in it. He is renting ten castles in Germany and Austria which he turned into luxurious restaurants for rich clientele. He planned it with the Spitzer’s castle as well, he signed the documents on intentions with the Beocin municipality but he got ill and the job failed.
It was estimated that the castle rehabilitation will require more than RSD 1 m,Dnevnik reports. Since municipality does not have the funds, it was decided to rent the building.
