Tourist center in the south of Serbia - Besna kobila to get 5 ski paths, 4 cable cars, ethno village

Besna kobila is located some 40 km far from Vranje and with 1.922 m above the sea level is among the highest mountains in Serbia. .In order to develop tourism and improve environment at the mountain, the city administration of Vranje developed a Draft of the Detailed regulation plan of the central Besna kobila ski area zone which is available for public inspection August 25.

With the implementation of the planned facility, Besna kobila should become a modern winter tourist center which will attract tourists from all parts of the country and abroad with its attractiveness and climate conditions.

- At the slopes of the mountain, there is an old mountain house built in the fifties of the last century as well as a few ski paths from that age. With the activation of the complex, turning it over into a modern, winter tourist center, conditions for faster development of the entire area would be created. Rehabilitation of the mountain house and a ski paths as well as construction of new and attractive facilities has been in progress – a responsible designer, Tatjana Cvetkovic from the Bureau for Urbanism of the City of Vranje, says.

The ski area plan occupies 260ha, and it was planned to become a zone with ski paths cable cars, ethno village, weekend settlement, facilities for tourists’ accommodation, etc.

The capacity of the ski area should be minimum 1.809 simultaneous ski areas without waiting for cable cars.

- The ski area comprises a number of the Alps ski paths and connection ski paths and cable cars. The plan includes 5 basic ski paths, 4 cable cars and 5 connection paths connected into a unique spatial skiing system. Cvetkovic explains and adds that polygons would be merged with the ski area spave and available through planned cable car system.

The average Alps paths lengths range from minimal 400m to maximum 1.100m with the height difference from 90m to 320m and average slope of 20% - 30%. The longest path is 3.000 m.

Ski paths are mainly (60,25%) in forest parts and the soil in the lower third of a ski paths requires a significant preparation for the usage of snow cover of minimum 15 do 30 cm.

Sport, recreation and accommodation

The future tourist center should comprise weekend houses, business facilities and business and service facilities. The mountain house should be reconstructed and superstructured.

A residence area with tradition, culture, lifestyle and food is planned.

- Food production, nourishing of domestic work and stables are primary values of the area – Cvetkovic says and adds that construction of small hotels, villas, pensions is planned.
