House on Flat Hill comes to life - Terra Panonica develops cultural and tourist complex in Mokrin

Since last year, a renovated family house on the former property of the Novakov family in Mokrin, built in 1925, is open to young artists of various profiles who are staying in the unique cultural and tourist complex Terra Panonica.

Once famous only for fruit brands, unusual cheeses and gastronomic specialties, the village near Kikinda in Vojvodina has also become known for cyber architecture, theater plays, concerts, camps. This unusual complex, spanning 3.5 ha, will be completely finished until 2013.

- An unusual blend of contemporary materials and a combination of minimalist solutions and the spirit of the plain have introduced a new, exotic location to the tourist map of Serbia - Terra Panonica CEO Aleksandar Cesljevic says for eKapija.

Young architects gathered in the informal Belgrade-based group Autori (Authors) are to be blamed for the attractiveness of architectural solutions on the property of Terra Panonica. This group has won the award for the best piece of architecture in 2011 for the project House on Flat Hill. At the last, 33rd Architecture Show, Maja Trbovic, Dusan Nenadovic, Aleksandra Nikitin and Dijana Novakovic presented their cyber house in Mokrin, part of the future complex.

Mr. Cesljevic explains that the complex will comprise five facilities. The facilities that already exist on the lot are a family house built in 1925 and a new facility, of which construction started and ended in 2010, and it is, actually, a reconstructed 1870's house. The property has so far been the place where theater plays, exhibitions, concerts and camps are organized and it is also planned to host seminars and courses for the education of young talents in the future, while all conditions exist for the corporate tourism as well.

- Once it is completely finished, the complex Terra Panonica will comprise an adapted old house with guest suites (net surface: 568 square meters), a swimming pool and a wellness center (304 square meters), a showroom (40 square meter), a summer cafe and a common room for guests (70 square meters), and the facility that was built the first, comprising the offices of Terra Panonica, a creative workshop and suites for workshop participants (230 square meters) - the investor explains and adds that about EUR 1.5 million are required for the complex to be finished.

Mr. Cescevic adds that similar concepts exist elsewhere in the world, but that Terra Panonica has tried to create an interesting project that will present the authentic atmosphere of Vojvodina to both domestic and foreign guests.

When asked which specific products of Mokrin the hosts of the complex take pride in, our interlocutor replies:

- The authentic products we intend to offer to our guests are quality fruit brandies, primarily quince brandy, non-typical and rare types of cheese, traditional cosmetic preparations and some other products that are still in the phase of research and preparation - says Mr. Cesljevic.
