The City of Belgrade will put the congress complex of Sava Centar up for sale next week at a price of at least EUR 25 million.
The new owner will have to invest an additional EUR 50 million in reconstruction in the next five years and provide a banking guarantee which is activated if the condition is not met.
As Politika writes, the future owner will not be allowed to change the purpose of the facility, as the building, designed by architect Stojan Maksimovic, is in the process of being included in the catalog of cultural goods. The deputy mayor of Belgrade, Goran Vesic, says that the city only incurs losses due to Sava Centar, but that Belgrade needs it, which is why the new buyer will not be allowed to change its purpose.
– It is of key importance for the development of congress tourism, as such tourists spend twice as much as regular ones each day. The new owner will be required to let the city use the space for events such as FEST at lower prices – Vesic said.
He added that the city would advertise the sale of the Beogradjanka building by the end of January as well, as the facility also causes the city to incur losses.
– We could earn around EUR 1 million a year from the property tax – Vesic said. Politika reminds that Beogradjanka is under protection and that the buyer would not be allowed to tear it down.
Let us remind that the senior vice president of Delta Holding, Zivorad Vasic, has confirmed that the company is interested in purchasing Sava Centar.
