IKEA retail park to be built in Serbia by 2021 – Investment worth EUR 50 million

Regional Property & Expansion Manager at IKEA South East Europe, Vladislav Lalic, stated on Friday, March 9, 2018, on the Dan Uzivo show on TV N1 that he was satisfied with the results achieved in Serbia up till that point and said that one million and two hundred thousand people had visited the department store.

Lalic says that the Swedish company is confident about the development of the Serbian economy and that they therefore want to make additional investments, announcing the construction of a retail park in the next two to two and a half years.

He estimates that the investment will be worth up to EUR 50 million and that 350 to 400 people would be employed.

– I wouldn’t speculate about this. The final decision has not yet been made, although it all seems very promising. We also have to obtain all the necessary permits – he says.

Lalic reminds that the initial plans envisage the construction of another IKEA department store in Belgrade and claims that they haven’t given up on the plan.

– It’s not a secret that we are looking for a location, which would be the stretch towards the Belgrade Airport – Lalic says.

He said that they would try to provide more affordable shipment prices for customers.

– We have opened service centers, or, let’s call them collection points. They are currently located in Nis and Novi Sad with our logistics partner. This means that you can do everything online – pick an article and one of the two collection points to have it shipped to – Lalic explains and adds that they are also working on having shipment prices lower in Belgrade too.

He specifies that the shipment to Nis and Novi Sad, for an article of up to a thousand kilograms, is around RSD 999, whereas the price for goods up to 30 kilograms is around RSD 299.

Discussing the issue of prices, Lalic points out that thorough analyses were performed before the entrance to the Serbian market.

– We’ve realized that Serbian consumers are sensitive to the prices, but one also needs to be realistic regarding their purchasing power. We have 9,500 articles, so our range of products goes wide and deep, and it is our goal to have the most competitive prices in comparative categories. We are aware that we need to work on this, but we’ve implemented 12-month interest-free financing, and we will also have discount programs – Lalic explains.
