Mayor of Belgrade Sinisa Mali announced that the City would
try to find a partner for Sava Centar once again.
– We need a strategic partner, and if we don't find it, we will reconstruct Sava Centar ourselves – Mali said and added that Sava Centar was one of the most important companies for the city, but that it had problems regarding the currently unsustainable way it operates.
– Sava Centar has not been reconstructed nor has money been invested in it. The heating and cooling system in it is very expensive – Mali explained.
He reminded that the City had tried, together with the employees, to find a partner through a public-private partnership for Sava Centar, but that the attempt had failed.
– I believe we will try one more time to find a partner who will not only provide the money, but who also has experience in organizing big events – Mali said.
He pointed out that the partner for Sava Centar needed to have at least EUR 20 million and experience in congress tourism, as the facility needs to be the carrier of congress tourism in Belgrade.
He also said that a set of financial measures for the stabilization of Sava Centar had been adopted at the previous session of the City Assembly, but that this was not a solution and that they would therefore try to find a partner.
The city authorities previously held the position that a partner for Sava Centar needed to be found, as the city couldn't finance the reconstruction itself.
