Over 60 years after it was raised, the complex of the American embassy in Belgrade's center has new owners – two Israeli companies. The investors have already torn down half of the 17,000 square meters in five buildings, and the beginning of the construction of a residential-office complex has been announced for the end of August. As they say, they will hire local construction companies and use materials produced in Serbia.

– The demolition is being carried out with machines and cutters. There's not much noise, and the citizens are protected – says Vese Romic, director of Elita Cop.

The purchaser of the building and the 6,000-m2 plot has hired a local company to build 260 apartments, 500 parking spaces and over 5,000 square meters of office space. A total of 250 workers will be employed on the construction site.

– We will use local materials and the focus will be on helping the local economy. The project is in the closing phase, and what follows is to obtain the building permit and to start with earth and masonry works – Dragana Glavardanov, construction engineer of Energogrupa, emphasizes and reminds that this is one of the most beautiful boulevards in the capital of Serbia.

The Israeli investor has put the architectural solution in charge of Serbian and Israeli experts, which will keep the recognizable facade of the former American embassy, but with modern interior solutions.

– The ownership relations are 100% clear, as us, the private investors, and the seller of the complex have signed an agreement. Future purchasers may rest assured that all the paperwork, all the permits and contracts, are there and that there will be no problems regarding the documents – says Misa Markovic, manager of KMR Yossi Avrahami and Almogim Holdings.

The residential-office complex in the Kneza Milosa Street should be completed by 2019. The investor says that the apartments will be sold during the construction as well, but that the first purchasers will only be able to move in once the exploitation permit has been obtained and the facility registered.
