Famous Gospojina event in Novi Becej attracted over 200,000 visitors last year. This year's event, which is held every year on the religious holiday Gospojina, will most likely break the record from the last year, so local authorities are considering boosting the accommodation capacity in this town in central Banat that aims to become an attractive tourist destination.
As eKapija was explained by Nemanja Vaskovic, the director of the Novi Becej Tourism Organization, this place in Banat hosts over 20 events during the year. During the summer, there is one event almost every weekend, meaning that the number of tourists looking for accommodation is on a rise.

- Camping tourism is characterized by a smaller number of overnight stays in one place. It is also known as transit tourism, so it may be one of the best solutions for tourists visiting these events. That is why we've decided to build a camp and boost the accommodation capacity of our town in that way - said Vaskovic, who is also the creator of new camp to be located on the very bank of the Tisa River.

One of the indications that this type of tourism has become an European trend is the information that Germany registers 32 million overnight stays in camps every year, and Novi Becej plans to have at least 1% of that number in the future. The Sustainable Development Strategy and the Comprehensive Zoning Plan call for the construction of camp in Novi Becej as well as a dock for tourist boats and an aqua park.

Camp on 3 hectares

According to preliminary designs prepared by Belgrade-based architectural studio D-Design, the plan is to build a camp consisting of 32 1.5 room bungalows on an area of 3 hectares. There will also be 40 parking places for camping trailers of the new generation, with power and water connections, as well as a space for tents, a multifunctional stage, and an area for hanging out and barbecues.

- Some of the most popular events held in Novi Becej will be moved to the stage in new camp once built – says our interlocutor.

Total value - EUR 400,000

The plan is finish the camp within the next three years, by 2018. According to Vaskovic, it should have four stars in line with European standards.

- Novi Becej and Becej will host the Workers Olympics 2019, so we hope that the camp will have been finished by then – our interlocutor says and adds that the entire investment, which will be implemented in three phases, will reach a value of EUR 400,000.

Vasovic points out that one part of the camp will be financed through cross-border cooperation with Hungary.
- Our partners from Hungary will finance the construction of bungalows. Also, the province will provide money for the construction of sports fields.

Five new hostels

According to Sasa Sucurovic, the mayor of Novi Becej municipality, this small town in Vojvodina should get five more hostels in addition to a modern camp.

A growing number of tourists has also motivated the management of Tiski Cvet Hotel to add three more swimming pools to their offer.

- The hotel plans to first open a mini spa center and then build a modern spa center in late 2016 - Vaskovic adds.

Azerbaijanis want to build aqua park

During their visit to Novi Becej this June, representatives of the Embassy of Azerbaijan expressed interest in investing in an aqua park that is proposed by the Comprehensive Zoning Plan.

- It would be an investment of between 6 and 7 million euros that could become a reality within the next three to four years. Partners from Azerbaijan will come to visit us soon, so we expect to have some concrete information then - the director of the Novi Becej Tourism Organization announced.
