Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas and Delta humanitarian fund Director Ivana Miskovic-Karic signed an agreement today on realization of the project for construction of an institution for children with special needs. Delta holding will use its funds to build and then donate to the city and the children of Belgrade - a facility for daycare and accommodation of children with special needs, which will be situated on Bezanijska Kosa, at the corner of Ismeta Mujezinovica Street and Dr Huga Klajna Street, on the lot of 3,234 square meters.

According to Dragan Djilas, this is the biggest donation to the city in the last few years.

– It is very significant that Belgrade will get a facility that will be used by children with special needs. The value of the donation is 2 million euros and the construction will commence in late 2010, while the deadline for completion of works is one year – said Djilas and invited other companies to participate in city campaigns or create them themselves in accordance with their capabilities.

Ivana Miskovic-Karic pointed out that, after the conducted research, Delta had come to the knowledge that neither the city nor whole Serbia had sufficient number of such facilities.

– Although the facility will have a big financial value, when compared to its significance, it is less important. This center should be not only an institution, but also a home. This is the first in a series of project that Delta intends to realize in the following period and, thus, try to renew the tradition of endowments in the country. We are aware of the fact that this world has been built by the people who had a vision and knew that they could do something more. That is why we wanted to leave something more needed behind, and not something more popular – said Ivana Miskovic-Karic.

The endowment will be used permanently and exclusively for the needs of accommodation and activities of children with disabilities and it can never have a commercial purpose and serve as the means for gaining financial profit. The facility will have three levels (basement, ground floor, and first floor), its total surface will be between 2,500 and 3,000 square meters, and it will also comprise a park equipped in accordance with the needs of the children. The capacity of the facility is 50 children.

During the construction of the main project, all relevant standards of construction of facilities for this purpose will be respected, as well as the project task approved by the competent Secretariat for Social Care, representatives of all Belgrade-based daycare centers for kids with disabilities, and representatives of parents of kids with disabilities.
