Energy Permit for Expansion of Kovacica Wind Farm Signed
After visiting the wind farm in Kovacica, she told the press that the energy facility had been commissioned in 2019 and that the Israeli investor Enlight Renewable Energy would expand the capacities by building another wind farm, named after Mihajlo Pupin, a Serbian scientist born in Idvor, not far from the location where the new facility is planned.
Mihajlovic said that the year 2021 was a year of big changes in the energy sector of Serbia and that it was a year for making decisions about the country’s energy policy for the next 10, 20, or 30 years.
She emphasized that the Kovacica wind farm was also a symbol of new technologies and future progress and expressed her satisfaction over the interest of Israeli investors in the projects of renewable energy sources in Serbia.
– If there is a form of renewable energy that has developed particularly in Serbia in the past years, it is wind energy – said Mihajlovic, who visited the wind farm with the ambassador of Israel to Serbia, Yahel Vilan.
She said that, since 2014, eight wind farms of close to 400 MW of installed power had been completed, that another two were under construction and that she believed that they would reach 600 MW on installed power.
She emphasized that, in addition to wind farms, it was also important to have other renewable energy sources in order to have climate-neutral development and that the competent ministry had therefore prepared new laws on energy and energy efficiency, as well as the law on renewable energy sources.
– We also want to develop solar power plants and to continue developing wind farms, but also geothermal energy. We want to have at least 40% electricity produced from RES by 2040. That is quite realistic – Mihajlovic says.
