On Friday, 4 April 2014, Minister of Foreign and Domestic Trade Rasim Ljajic and the representatives of the Association of Chinese Furniture Producers discussed the options for Chinese investments in the timber industry and furniture production in Serbia, it was announced on the website of the Serbian government.

On that occasion, Ljajic said that the comparative advantages of Serbia included raw materials base, trained workforce and free trade agreements with a number of countries which enable access to the market of 800 million people.

He invited Chinese investors to take these advantages and invest in Serbia's furniture industry.

Ding Zuohong, the president of the Association of Chinese Furniture Producers, pointed out that the members of that association were interested in purchasing certain furniture plants in Serbia. He said Chinese investors had also showed their interest in building an industrial zone in Serbia where furniture and home decoration would be produced.

Zuohong announced that both ideas of the Chinese investors would be implemented very soon and reminded that China was one of the leading furniture producers in the world, with more than 50,000 companies operating in that field and employing nearly five million people, the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister said in a release.
