Michael O`Leary, the chief executive of Ryanair, said earlier this week that his company was going to start a service from Europe to the US, adding that fares for these flights could start from as low as 10 euros - not including baggage fees and extras.

Mr O’Leary told the Irish Hotels Federation conference in Meath on February 25 that Ryanair would offer tickets to New York and Boston for €10, while flights back to Europe would cost €7.30, The Daily Telegraph reported.

- Not every seat will be €10 of course, there will also need to be a very high number of business or premium seats - O`Leary explained.

He added that Ryanair`s stats showed that there was 15 per cent of the public who would agree to pay the cheaper fare and then pay extra for the frills.

- We can make money even on 99 cent fares in Europe - Mr O’Leary said.

The flights would begin within six months of Ryanair buying the long-haul aircraft needed. However, these purchases could take up to five years, given that Mr O’Leary previously said that Ryanair would need “a fleet of 30, 40, 50 aircraft and not two, four or six” to start flights to the US.
