The Minister of Energy, Development and Environmental Protection, Prof. Dr. Zorana Mihajlović, met on Tuesday (22 October 2013) with the delegation from the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of the Republic of Germany, representatives of KfW Development Bank, German Organisation for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Ambassador to Serbia Heinz Wilhelm.

Minister Mihajlović signed with the Director General from the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, Dr. Uta Bölhoff, Annex 3 of the Protocol on grant award in 2013 amounting to 2.5 million Euros for the programme “Water supply and wastewater treatment in medium-sized municipalities in Serbia”

After signing the Annex, the Ministry published on their website that special investment agreements for Kruševac, Užice and Vranje have been signed with the Director of KfW Serbian Office Jürgen Welschof and the mayors of Kruševac, Užice i Vranje.

Minister Mihajlović thanked the guests for the support Germany has been providing in the European integration process and presented the efforts of the Government and the Ministry of Energy, Development and Environment Protection in harmonisation of legislation with EU standards. She also presented the projects planned for the following period. The German delegation had the opportunity to hear about establishment of the budget Fund for Energy Efficiency, and with implementation of the Brussels Agreement with Priština in the field of energy.

Projects “Water supply and wastewater treatment in medium-sized municipalities in Serbia” – 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 amounting to 200 million Euros in total are being prepared within bilateral cooperation with FR Germany and KfW.

The Municipality of Užice received 15 million dinars for building a wastewater treatment plant, which will be the first plant in this part of Serbia, said the Mayor of Užice Saša Milošević for Tanjug.

Vranje received 15 million dinars, and Kruševac 24.2 million dinars, stated for Tanjug the presidents of these municipalities Zoran Antić i Bratislav Gašić.

This way, the water management system in Vranje will be completed. This is a very important investment for this municipality and South Serbia, said Antić and added that this is the second largest investment that Vranje is carrying out with the Ministry of Energy after the power station has been recently put into operation.

The Mayor of Kruševac said that the wastewater treatment project is of great importance to the city, primarily because of the two rivers near Kruševac – Rasina and Morava – which have been much polluted until now because of the sewage flowing into them.
