Construction of first wind farm in Serbia commenced in Plandiste - Works to complete by autumn 2014

The Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) today started the construction of the first wind farm in Serbia in Plandiste. According to NIS CEO Kirill Kravchenko, a total of EUR 160 million will be invested in this wind farm titled Plandiste.

The building site was opened by Kravchenko and Serbian First Deputy PM Aleksandar Vucic.

As the CEO of NIS reminded, the project implementation is entrusted to NIS Elektrowind in which NIS holds a 50-percent stake, whereas the rest is in the possession of private investors.

According to Kravchenko, the plan is to complete this project in 12 months.

He announced that NIS would invest maximum EUR 23 million. The rest of the funds will be provided by project partners as well as from loans.

The new wind farm is planned to comprise 34 wind turbines with a total capacity of 102 megawatts. Electricity generated in this wind farm will be purchased by the Electric Power Company of Serbia (EPS).

A total of 300 people will be working on the construction of Plandiste wind farm.

The ceremony marking the commencement of construction of Serbia's first wind farm was also attended by Energy Minister Zorana Mihajlovic, Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Chepurin, and NIS Energowind's co-owner Goran Novakovic.
