China's CMEC interesting in completing bypass around Belgrade
China's national company China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) is interested in participating as the main contractor in the construction of the remaining stretch of the bypass around Belgrade, it was said today at a meeting between Serbian Transportation Minister Milutin Mrkonjic and CMEC managers.
A document on cooperation, which would serve as a basis for future negotiations, should be signed in about ten days between CMEC, the Koridori Srbije company and the Ministry of Transportation, said Miodrag Poledica, state secretary at that ministry.
He noted that 15 kilometers of road were yet to be built to complete the bypass around Belgrade, adding that that required an investment of EUR 150 million.
According to Poledica, about three quarters of that bypass have been completed to date.
As Poledica explained, CMEC is interested in providing the funding for the implementation of that project from a fund worth about USD 10 billion, which was approved in 2012 by the Chinese government for investment in 16 countries in eastern Europe.
If this project gets the green light, it will be the first undertaking in our country to be financed with the funds from that Chinese development fund, Poledica stressed.
