And while it is speculated in the media whether Skijalista Srbije is intended for privatization, the company continues its old path. As it was announced some ten days ago, about RSD 3.1 billion will be invested in Serbian ski resorts Kopaonik, Zlatibor and Stara Planina in 2013 and 2014. Most money will be spent on the construction of new ski lifts at these three mountains (3 at Kopaonik, 3 at Stara Planina, and 1 at Zlatibor) and on new artificial snow systems. Some of this money will also be used to introduce new summer amenities at these mountains.

Zlatibor downhill

Final preparations for the new winter season are underway at Mount Zlatibor, which expects first skiers at Tornik in mid-December. During the last year, about 32,000 ski tickets were sold at this mountain, and people at the Tourism Organization of Zlatibor expect more guests this year when compared to 2011. As they told eKapija, between 20 and 25 thousand people should be at Zlatibor for the New Year's Eve.

From mid-December, seven kilometers of ski runs, a six-seat ski lift, two surface lifts and a ski lift for children will be operational at Tornik. If there is no snow, there is no reason to worry because all four ski runs - Cigota, Tornik, Ribnica and Zmajevac are covered by an artificial snow system. A skating rink will also be placed at the disposal of guests, while those wishing to try an unusual downhill skiing can try tubing - a ride on special large tires. .

These four runs have the capacity of about 5,400 skiers per hour. However, judging by announcements by Skijalista Srbije, this capacity will be substantially bigger as of 2014.

In addition to the improvement of infrastructure for the winter season, expansion of summer amenities at Zlatibor is also in the pipeline, so that this mountain will soon get a gym park, artificial rock, fun park, etc.

Three more ski lifts at Mount Stara Planina

Similar activities will take place at the famous beauty of eastern Serbia, where 19,000 ski tickets were sold last season.

- In 2013 and 2014, another three four-seat ski lifts will be built at Stara Planina, with their total capacity amounting to 2,400 skiers per hour. Besides, construction of an artificial snow system at new ski runs will be resumed - says Ana Jovanovic from Skijalista Srbije.

- Aside from new ski infrastructure, the plan is also to build an igloo and a skating rink at this mountain. Over the next two years, Stara Planina will also get interesting and attractive summer amenities, such as an artifical rock for climbing, gym park, and an adventure park – she adds.

(Stara Planina)

The ski resort Stara Planina has procured 40 new snow cannons, and final parts for the artificial snow system were supplied over a month ago. Cannons are made by the Italian company Technoalpin. This system will be installed along the routes of the gondola Jabucko Ravniste, four-seat ski lift Babin Zub and the ski lift Rudine.

Stara Planina now offers the total of 13 kilometers of ski runs (Konjarnik, Suncana Dolina, Markova Livada, Babin Zub, Jabucko Ravniste and Rudine), which are all connected by an eight-seat gondola, two four-seat ski lifts, and two common ski lifts.

New six-seat ski lifts at Mount Kopaonik

Extensive works have also been carried out at Kopaonik. Most of Gobelja is covered by an artificial snow system, which now covers 97 percent of the largest ski resort in Serbia. Starting this season, there will be three new ski runs at this mountain.

Over the next two years, the ski resort Kopaonik, where 109,000 ski tickets were sold last year, will also obtain three new six-seat lifts with the capacity of 3,000 skiers per hour. The plan is also to build an artificial snow system for new ski runs and to procure some multifunctional machines.

This winter, hotels and restaurants at Kopaonik expect the largest number of their guests to come from Russia. In order to keep this mountain to visitors over the summer as well, the plan is to build a toboggan on rails alongside the route of the ski lift Pancicev Vrh, as well as a fitness park, fun park, climbing rock, etc.

The ski season at Kopaonik opened December 6th.

A six-day ski pass at Kopaonik costs RSD 10,710 per person, the price of the same ski pass at the ski resort Tornik, Zlatibor is RSD 6,170, whereas a six-day ski pass at Stara Planina costs RSD 4,940.
