Agreement signed to form new industrial zone in Beocin - Fit-out kicks off in spring 2013
Representatives of the Beocin municipality, Lafarge and the US Agency for International Development (USAID) signed Tuesday (27 November 2012) an agreement to fit out and develop a new industrial zone in Beocin.
According to the Agreement on the Establishment of a Public-Private Partnership, a 26-hectare industrial zone will be built on a municipal land, and it will meet the requests of interested investors from Austria, Slovakia, New Zealand and Great Britain, which plan to employ about 250 workers from Beocin and its surroundings in the first phase.
As envisaged by the Agreement, the USAID will provide USD 70,000 to finance the main designs for the zone, Lafarge is going to secure technical and financial support to the development and promotion of the zone, whereas the municipality is tasked with attracting investors and ensuring that all administrative procedures are quick and simple and that all permits are issued in the shortest time possible.
As it was said at the agreement signing ceremony, the infrastructure equipping of the site will start in spring 2013.
Over the previous four years Beocin and Lafarge have been equipping and developing the Business Park, where Mars has opened its factory that now employs 200 workers.
- The company J&J is building its 8,000 sqm production facility in the Business Park, and so is Pro Wood, which is engaged in the production of metal goods. Another 230 people from Beocin should get a job at these two facilities by spring - said Mayor Bogdan Cvejic.
He added that they would soon finish the negotiations with two foreign companies working for the "largest German carmaker." Cvejic noted that Beocin had managed to reduce the unemployment rate and attract investors even at the time of global economic crisis, adding that that was the reason for building a new industrial park.
