Croatia`s PharmaS pharmaceutical company yesterday started producing drugs in a facility built in the industrial zone Bagljas in Zrenjanin.

This modern production facility features a state-of-the-arts laboratory for testing the quality of drugs, a completely automated production, as well as a storage, technical and office space. With the completion of the facility that is fully in line with EU standards for the pharmaceutical industry, the total value of PharmaS' investment in Serbia now exceeds EUR 18 million.

- I am very glad that we've opened an up-to-date plant that will operate in accordance with the highest standards applied in the pharmaceutical industry. One of our most important values is the quality we insist on in all segments of business. Our further activities should ensure a high quality of drugs and, thus, contribute to the improvement of health of every individual in Serbia. Thanks to the new plant, the company's capacity will be substantially increased - said PharmaS Serbia CEO Radivoj Topalov.

PharmaS will be producing a broad pallette of high-quality and affordable generic drugs in its Zrenjanin-based facility. Before opening a new plant in Serbia, PharmaS had been producing 7 drugs, and now it is going to produce 10 drugs in Zrenjanin in the first phase. The company also plans to expand the palette of drugs in one of the next phases, in accordance with market needs.

The new plant will have the production capacity of 30 million packs of drugs per year, which will provide company with numerous opportunities for boosting the production of drugs to market in Serbia. However, the plan is also to increase exports to countries in the region. The completely automated plant in Zrenjanin will employ 30 highly qualified workers in the first phase.

PharmaS Serbia was established in 2010 as a result of the takeover of pharmaceutical companies Ni Medic and In Med. It currently has about 70 employees. The company operates in regional countries – Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia and Albania, and its focus on the region enables it to quickly adapt to local markets and offer competitive prices for top-quality drugs, reads a release issued by the company.

The famous pharmaceutical plant Jugoremedija exists in Zrenjanin since 1964, when it was founded as a result of a joint investment with the well-known German company Hoechst.

After it was privatized in 2002, Jugoremedija went through a difficult period and has not recovered to date. Its entire property is mortgaged because of debts, while production at the plant is halted.
