Imlek Director Slobodan Petrovic announced Thursday that there might be a shortage of milk in Serbia due to a drought and reduced production.

- We will try to overcome this shortage by importing milk from our companies in the neighboring countries because Serbia-based production alone will not be sufficient - he told the press at the Southeast Europe Management Forum.

According to his words, consequences of the reduced milk production can already be felt.

Petrovic said that the production in Serbia could not be increased before June 2013 due to a drought, stressing that the production would be boosted only if the "year is good".

He also announced that he would talk with farmers on Thursday about an increase in the purchase price of milk, adding that that would affect retail prices, but he was unable to specify how much.

As it was announced earlier, the prices of Imlek's milk and dairy products may go up in October because that company plans to increase the purchase price of milk by 1.5 to 2 dinars per liter.

The current purchase price is RSD 36 per liter.
