International conference on industrial zones in Kragujevac

Local Democracy Agency organized international conference in Kragujevac whose subject was possibilities of construction of new and revitalization of old industrial zones. On that occasion, foreign experts from Italy and France talked shared their experience on this issue.

Taking Italian City of Torino as example, experts explained the way in which industrial zones located in the city center had been revitalized. Relocation of big factories "Fiat" and "Michelin" outside city zones left vacant factory halls behind, which now stay empty for no reason. Some of them are turned to museums, others are adapted into fairgrounds, whereas flat roofs of some factory halls served as space for parks.

Besides Torino, many other European cities, such as Barcelona, Valencia, Siren, had industrial zones moved outside the city, and their places were taken by new administrative, cultural, housing zones.

It was pointed out that the intention of Local Democracy Agency was to connect its centers in Kragujevac, Kraljevo, Leskovac and Niš into unique network, because the purpose of the Agency was promotion of networking of local communities on territories of former Yugoslavia during their transition process preceding joining European Union.c
