The designer NEO Aerodromes Engineering Belgrade has entrusted, to the company Envico, the execution of the procedure of the environmental impact assessment, that is, the preparation of the request for deciding on the necessity of the impact assessment for the project of the expansion of the existing platform at the Nis Constantine the Great Airport for the needs of the investor Airports of Serbia.

This request is currently up for public review, and it emphasizes that the planned expansion of the platform would secure an increase in the airport’s capacities.

– With its structural and exploitation characteristics, the new platform enables the handling of the largest aircraft with the code letter E, along with establishing traffic safety and an unobstructed process of handling aircraft, passengers and goods – it is added. It is clarified that aircraft with the code letter E are characterized by a length of 63.69 to 70.67 m and a wing span of 52 to 65 m.

The project entails the expansion of the terminal platform toward the south, west and east sides. The scope of the project includes the reconstruction and construction of electrical installations for the purposes of the lighting of the platform and the construction of a system of rainwater sewer with a retention basin.

The existing platform takes up an area of 2.75 ha. The planned expansion of the platform takes up an area of 8.75 ha, which is an expansion of close to 70%. The platform extends parallel with the runway and is connected with it by a taxiway. The function of the platform is the parking and handling of aircraft in four parking positions. The existing platform also features a servicing lane between the parking positions and the terminal.

The platform currently features a flexible road structure.

The project envisages the demolition of a part of the existing structure on an area of 6,657 m2, after which the same area is extended. The projected expansion of the platform is 81,049.70 m2, so the total area of the expanded platform is 113,294.53 m2.

The new design envisages the reconstruction of the existing platform and its expansion:
– the installation of the lighting of the platform,
– a system of light signalization,
– a pumping station for the new rainwater sewer.

Let us remind that, recently, the deputy director of the Airports of Serbia, Zivojin Tasic, stated that the new terminal building at the Nis Constantine the Great Airport would be fully completed by the end of April 2023.

He added that, immediately upon the completion of the construction of the new building, the existing one will be reconstructed and expanded with terminals and that those works would be completed by the end of March 2024.
