Several weeks ago, the reputable Serbian enologist Mladen Dragojlovic visited James Suckling, one of the most influential wine critics in the world, in Tuscany and presented to him – a premiere for this critic – a selection of wines from Serbia. Our wines from the houses Djokovic, Matalj and Matijasevic received high grades and high praise by this famous critic, and one wine from the Matijasevic winery won the impressive 93 points.

Regarding the SoviNoa Fume Blanc 2020 wine of the Matijasevic winery, which received the very high rating of 93 points, Suckling said that the wine had a medium body and a creamy texture, with aromas of crushed rock, sliced lemon, guava and flintstone and recommended it to be drunk immediately. To the vertical of SoviNoa wines from 2019 to 2021 Suckling gave 90 points each, which is also a quiet compliment to the consistency of the quality of this Sauvignon blanc wine from year to year.

Matijasevic’s Belina 2020, made from the Smederevka grape variety, a slightly underrated variety whose potentials this winery strongly believes in, won 90 points. The importance of the fact that one of the most influential wine critics in the world tasted and rated a wine made from Smederevka is a great milestone for this variety.

– A wine with cantaloupe and lemon aromas and flavors. Medium body, creamy structure and a finish full of flavors. To be drunk immediately – Suckling wrote in his tasting notes, as reported by the Vino & Fino website.

The wines of the young Djokovic winery, Syrah 2019 and Chardonnay 2019, won 91 points each. Regarding Syrah 2019, Suckling wrote that it was full of meat and spice aromas, along with dark tobacco and black fruit.

– Fresh and very tasty. A Syrah with a true character, made by the family of the famous tennis player Novak Djokovic. To be drunk immediately – Suckling said and also called the winery’s Chardonnay a fresh and vibrant wine with a medium body, nice acids and a sparkling finish, with boiled apple and honey flavors.

Kremen Kamen 2019 of the Matalj winery, their already famous premium Cabernet Sauvignon, which has proven to be a best-seller in every vintage, won 92 points, with a comment that it is a wine made with precision, with black raspberry and sweet tobacco flavors, a medium to full body and firm tannins. Suckling recommends waiting for another two to three years before the opening, although he says that it can already be drunk now.
