Origin Tags for Non-Food Products as Well
– The tag will make such products more attractive for consumers and also make counterfeiting impossible – stated Biljana Borzan, a member of the European Parliament and a member of the Board for Protection of Consumers, who announced the establishment of a system of EU tags for protected non-agricultural products as well.
Croatia, as she announced, might apply, in that sector, the Slavonia goldwork, the Brac stone, or the Pag lace. Serbia also has several products with the national geographic origin tag which are not from the food sector. For now, we could apply with the EU with, for example, the Pirot carpet, handmade towels from the Sabac area, the Zlakusa pottery, or the Sirogojno clothes.
The reputation of the Pirot carpet is very high, we take pride in this brand, but it is little known that carpet-making, without the state’s help, will not be able to survive, so the question is what we will be able to offer in Europe of these autochthonous products after all. What’s interesting is that the only protected service in Serbia is Cigota – The Special Hospital for Thyroid and Metabolism Diseases on Zlatibor. We also have several natural mineral waters protected, Politika reports.
