The consumers of natural gas in Serbia will not have to worry about price increases in the next two months either, although its price in world markets is increasing, because the Government of Serbia adopted the Decree on Limiting the Prices at the level from November 2021.

– The difference between the purchase and sale prices will be compensated for from the budget of Serbia – it is said in the Decree on the temporary limiting of the price of gas and compensating for the difference in the prices of natural gas imported to or produced in Serbia in case of disturbances in the market of natural gas.

The decree was adopted at the government’s session two days ago and is practically an extension of the similar decree from December 2021, which was also valid for 60 days.

– The decree proscribes the temporary measure of limiting the price of gas and the right to a compensation for the difference in the prices of natural gas imported to or produced in Serbia, which is used to calculate the price for the further sale and the basic price – says the decree, without citing the gas price, as it is a trade secret.

It is added that the decree also proscribes the entities which have the right to a compensation for the difference in the prices and the procedure of realizing the compensation right.

– The basic price of natural gas is the unit-price of natural gas either imported to or produced in Serbia, which is used to calculate the price for the further sale to suppliers, public suppliers and end-buyers and is formed in the amount of the average unit-price of natural gas for November 2021, expressed in dinars – the decree says.

It is added that the average unit-price of natural gas is the weighted unit-price of natural gas of all quantities either imported to or produced in Serbia in line with the long-term agreement on gas supply and the accompanying annexes for a single energy entity.

The basic price, as said, is implemented by energy entities which carry out the energy-related activities of supply of natural gas and wholesale supply of natural gas, as well as an energy entity which produces natural gas.

– Energy entities have the right to a compensation of the difference in the prices of imported natural gas or natural gas produced in Serbia and the basic price, for the quantities of natural gas sold to suppliers, public suppliers and end-buyers, beginning with December 1, 2021 – the decree says.

This decree pertains, as said, exclusively to the quantities of natural gas meant for consumption in the territory of Serbia.

The price of gas at the London market, on March 4, 2022, was around USD 1,900 for 1,000 cubic meters, and two days before, it reached a price of slightly over USD 2,200 in world markets.
