Prices of Basic Foodstuffs Limited to the Level of November 15 for a Period of Two Months, to be Extended if Necessary
The limitation of prices has been introduced in order to remove negative consequences and prevent market disturbances and will not apply to reduced prices (sales, seasonal discounts or promotional sales) if they were in force on November 15, 2021, but to the regular prices, i.e. the ones before discounts.
The decision, which will be applied in the duration of 60 days, stipulates that producers must not deliver these products in quantities lower than the average for the past 12 months. In case of violation of these provisions, fines in the amount from RSD 100,000 to RSD 2,000,000 are envisaged, as well as the prohibition of the economic activity in the duration from six months to one year, the Government of Serbia announced.
The minister of trade, tourism and telecommunications of Serbia, Tatjana Matic, announced that, if necessary, the government would extend the measure after the expiration of the 60-day period.
The minister added that the measure was necessary so that the living standard could be maintained, considering that, in the structure of daily consumption of food products, the majority of costs pertains to the articles encompassed by the adopted decision.
This decree is based on the announcements of a new increase in the prices of basic foodstuffs, as well as ingredients, some of which are at a ten-year high.
