Following the successfully completed revitalization, Block B1 at the Thermal Power Plant Nikola Tesla B (TENT B) was put into test operation at 6.53 AM on November 26. This block now has a power of 670 MW, which is 20 MW more than before the modernization, and its life cycle and efficiency have been increased, the PE EPS says in a press release.

The value of this investment is EUR 90 million. Most of it, EUR 70 million, pertains to the overhaul of the boiler facility and as much as 70% of that job was done by Serbian metalworking and boiler-making companies. That was the most complex part of this revitalization of B1, one of the two strongest thermal blocks within EPS.

– A total of 4,000 tons of new steel and 3,000 tons of construction materials were installed in this large project, and there were over 55,000 instances of welding, done flawlessly. I want to thank the young engineers who were the backbone of this modernization and thereby became a secure pillar of knowledge and expertise for the future projects in EPS – said Milorad Grcic, the acting director of Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

In addition to the increased power, life cycle and energy efficiency, this revitalization will also upgrade the conditions of environmental protection. The installation of the system for the reduction of nitrogen oxides will reduce the emission of these compounds to below 200 milligrams per cubic meter.

Ecological projects are carried out intensively at both TENT A and TENT B. The construction of the desulfuring facility at TENT A is in progress, and the project of the construction of one such facility at TENT B has also started.

– The aim is for all environmental protection projects to be realized at the biggest electricity plant in the Balkans, where over a half of the electrical energy is produced, and for all thermal power plants of EPS to be fully harmonized with the Directive on Industrial Emissions by 2027 – it is concluded.
