The UNDP, in cooperation with the Office for Public Investment Management, is realizing the project for the preparation of technical project documentation for the reconstruction and extension of the Dr Laza Lazarevic Clinic for Mental Disorders in Belgrade.

The existing complex consists of an inpatient department (3,890 m2), a dispensary (680 m2), an outpatient hospital (535 m2) and “The Doctor’s Tower” (1,000 m2). The intention is for the dispensary and the outpatient hospital to be integrated into a single facility, with a basement and three floors (including the ground floor).

Each functional unit is designed to occupy one floor. In addition to that, a basement space is formed as a crawl space and a unified archive for the entire psychiatric clinic. It is connected with the ground floor by a staircase and an external entrance on the east side. The topmost floor features the administrative space for the entire clinic.

The project envisages the reconstruction of the inpatient department and the construction of a new dispensary and outpatient hospital. The new facility will have a total area of 1,300 m2.

The outpatient hospital is meant for 90 users and the plan is for it to feature, among other things, rooms for individual, group and work therapy, a library and doctors’ rooms.

“The Doctor’s Tower” – a museum of psychiatry – is meant to be reconstructed. The plan is for it to feature a permanent exhibition on the history of psychiatry, a room for seminars, a café, the management rooms and the offices of the scientific research and education services.

– “The Doctor’s Tower” building is protected as a cultural monument of great importance and will be reconstructed in full cooperation with the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of the City of Belgrade – says the urban project.

The project was prepared by Forma Antika doo from Nis.
