The minister of mining and energy of Serbia, Zorana Mihajlovic, said today that lithium was one of the most critical raw materials in the world, that there were no projects in mining and energy on the global level without lithium and that the most modern technologies would be used in the Jadar project.

She added that the Jadar project was a potential development opportunity for Serbia, but that the realization of that project would depend on the environmental impact assessment and the citizens’ decision at the referendum, according to an announcement of the Ministry of Mining and Energy.

– I believe that this is a good project, but there are requirements that it needs to meet, primarily those that concern the environment. We want the full production chain, from the mine, through the lithium battery plant, to the electric vehicle plant. This also means jobs for several thousand people, of which two thousand at the mine alone, and a contribution to the GDP of EUR 17 billion. However, as president Vucic announced, the final decision on everything will be made by the citizens at the referendum, after they’ve been provided with all the information – Mihajlovic said.
