Serbia Considering Possibility of Building Small Modular Nuclear Power Plants by Itself
The president said that there would certainly be efforts toward getting power from sun and wind energy and other renewable sources.
– However, we need what’s secure and what brings power without any doubt, sun, rain or snow, under all weather conditions – Vucic emphasized.
As he added, he talked to the Hungarian president Viktor Orban six days ago about the construction of a nuclear power plant in that country.
– We said that we would want to co-own 15% of their nuclear power plant. We are ready to pay a good price for it, Vucic said today to journalists in Obrenovac. Those negotiations are only just starting – the president noted.
Vucic said that Serbia was ready to pay a good price for it, but that it was still too early for it, because discussions about that topic are only just starting, since the nuclear power plant, all the blocks included, is to be completed in 2035 only.
He added that he had also talked about the same subject with Boyko Borisov, until recently, the prime minister of Bulgaria, regarding the Bulgarian nuclear power plant in Belene.
This, Vucic says, is the safest option.
– We’ve had plenty of various offers and we need to see ourselves and think about who to talk to about modular nuclear power plants. In India, they have 14, Canada, France and America are building them, Russia too. We should see ourselves what to do in the upcoming years – Vucic said.
He added that it was not a simple question, but that the decision would not be rushed, but that it would be subject to serious cost-benefit analyses, safety analyses, adding that it was certain that this doesn’t jeopardize the environment.
