Vienna Subway Expert Knowledge to be Implemented in Belgrade

A delegation of the company Beogradski metro i voz has visited Vienna and got thorough first-hand information about the planning, construction and operations of subway systems from the city’s public transport company Wiener Linien.

The delegation first had a test-ride in an X-car, the latest-model rail car within the Vienna subway system, Eurocomm-PR announces. This was followed by an expert presentation on the planning and realization of the U2/U5 project, Vienna’s most important public project since the laying of the foundation stone for the U1 first subway line fifty years ago. On that occasion, there were detailed talks about the first fully automated subway train in Austria, which will operate on the U5 line from 2026. There were extensive discussions about the expected advantages of working without a driver, such as an increased flexibility, the separation of personnel and a quicker operating ability of trains.

Other topics discussed during the visit were the connecting of the subway system with other means of transport, the organization and the central, the trains and the engines, as well as risk management and manners of construction, and there was also a visit to the U2/U5 exhibit at the Volkstheater subway station.

The representatives of both public transport companies agreed that an exchange with other cities was of great importance. The cooperation with Wiener Linien goes back to 2016. A Vienna-based planning studio is also involved in the Belgrade subway project in an advisory capacity.
