United Media to Buy Controlling Stock of Montenegrin Vijesti

United Media has signed a letter of intent to buy 51% of Vijesti, newspaper, website and television from Montenegro, it has been announced. According to the letter of intent, UM, as a new shareholder, accepts to respect and protect the editorial independence and autonomy of Vijesti.

In a joint statement, it is said that the editor-in-chief will continue to be elected at the suggestion of local co-owners and the Media Development Investment Fund (MDIF), a New York-based investment fund that supports media freedom and has been Vijesti’s minority shareholder since the beginning.

United Media operates in eight countries and its portfolio features 55 TV channel, including N1 and Nova TV, as well as Nova M, various dailies, including Danas and Nova, as well as numerous radio stations.
