Tourism in 2021 – Over 8.5 Million Overnight Stays and Two Million Tourist Arrivals Realized in Serbia So Far

So far in 2021, Serbia has realized significant results in tourism, and an improvement of the epidemiological situation is a condition for the continued good results until the end of the year, Serbian Tourism Minister Tatjana Matic said in a statement for Tanjug.

On the occasion of the World Tourism Day, she pointed out that over 8.5 million overnight stays and two million tourist arrivals had been realized in Serbia until then, which are impressive numbers considering the circumstances we are living and working in.

She reminded that, in 2019, which was the most successful year for tourism, there were 10 million overnight stays and 3 to 3.7 million arrivals.

– What’s interesting is that, in the Covid period, the number of days that tourist spent in Serbia increased, and one of the reasons for it is the fact that we were on the “green list” of the EU, which was an important factor for spending more time in Serbia – she said.

The minister pointed out that, considering the summer season, the expectations were optimistic for the fourth quarter as well, but also added that, with the worsening of the epidemiological situation, she could no longer be an optimist.

She reminded that a better epidemiological situation was the exclusive pre-condition for congress tourism, autumn events and the New Year’s celebration.
