Expansion of the capacity of the Prahovo Port, as well as the construction of the so-called green terminal, the first of its kind in Serbia, should start in September according to earlier announcements, and the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure has announced the procurement for technical control of the construction permit project, with an estimated value of 1.5 million dinars.

The documentation states that capacity expansion of the Prahovo Port through construction of new storage capacities for bulk and general cargo (predominantly, but not exclusively related to the chemical industry) as well as modernization of port machinery, will create additional value for the economy operating in port's hinterland in Bor district, but also companies that operate in eastern Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and especially the Ironworks in Skopje.

- The Prahovo Port is especially important for the efficient operation of RTB Bor and IHP Prahovo, and thus for a large number of residents of eastern Serbia, whereby the planned expansion of the capacity of this port will make it far more competitive compared to the ports of Turnu Severin, Vidin and Calafat - the documentation states.

The projected additional capacities of the Prahovo Port should enable the transshipment and storage of at least 2,000,000 tons, and according to forecasts, by 2035 over 3,500,000 tons of various types of bulk and general cargo, which will enable this port to join the Core TEN-T network of river ports.

Location conditions have been obtained for the reconstruction of existing and construction of new capacities at the locality of Prahovo Port.

The deadline for submitting bids is October 7, 2021.
