Matic: Another year needed for tourism to recover

The Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications of Serbia, Tatjana Matic, has stated that it will take another year for the tourism revenues to recover, but that this year’s data point to the fact that the sector is on the right path.

Matic said on RTS that foreign tourists were coming back and that Serbia recorded an increase of foreign exchange inflow from tourism of 33% y-o-y and that it was at EUR 650 million at that moment.

– We are now at 50% (2019), and I’m talking about the data for the first six months, because we don’t have the statistics for the past two months, which were the busiest ones… For us, September and the winter period are traditionally good, and, depending on the situation, we can realize 70% of the results of our record-setting year – Matic said.


She added that 4.6 million of overnight stays by foreign tourists were registered and that there was a growth in the number of local tourists by 45%.
