Chinese Company Presents First Generation of Sodium-Ion Batteries for Quick Charging
The energy density of the new sodium-ion batteries can reach 160 Wh/kg, and it can be charged in 15 minutes up to 80% at room temperature, Robin Cheng, the chairman of CATL, said at an online briefing held on July 29.
The battery has the advantages of quick charging, high thermal stability, excellent performances at low temperatures and high integration efficiency, as reported by China Radio International.
Huang Qisen, deputy head of CATL's research center, stated that the battery proved to be very good at storing energy and that it performed well in various transportation scenarios, especially in regions with extremely low temperatures.
The plan is to establish a supply chain for the new technology in 2023.
