Mali: Government to Propose Minimum Wage of Over RSD 35,000

Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali has stated that the Government of Serbia will propose for the minimum wage to exceed RSD 35,000 this year.

Mali reminded that, in 2012, it was around RSD 15,700 and that, in 2021, it exceeded RSD 32,000.

– The minimum wage has doubled and more than doubled compared to 2012. I have talked to president Vucic and the prime minister and we will try for the minimum wage to exceed RSD 35,000 for the first time this year – Mali said, as announced by the ministry.

He noted that the negotiations between the trade unions and employers were in progress and that the government would introduce said proposition to those negotiations.

– This is a big increase of the minimum wage and great news for all employees, but on the other hand it is a big expenditure for employers. In the past three years, we have progressively reduced salary taxes and contributions, making employment more profitable. We will continue to do so. Several options are being considered, whether to increase the non-taxable income components or to reduce or remove some parts which pertain to taxes and contributions – Mali said.
