Serbia Connects Pipes with Hungary – Investment of Balkan Stream Gas Pipeline Worth EUR 1.8 Billion Finalized
Hungary is now to lease the capacities and Serbia is becoming an important transit country for Central Europe. The first quantities of the transit gas through Serbia towards Central Europe are to flow on October 1, RTS reports.
– In this profession, when two pipes are connected at the border, coming from two states, we call it a gold connection. A gold connection means that the project is being finalized and that gas supply is to start soon – said the President of the FGSZ Management Board, Ferenc Szabolcs.
Dusan Bajatovic, the general manager of Srbijagas, said that this put an end to a big project that took years and that helped Serbia finally solve the issue of gas supply from another direction and not just from Ukraine.
– No one will be freezing in Serbia anymore, and the price of gas for households will not change from the autumn either. The price increase as a consequence of the price of oil, which is followed by the price of gas, will be handled by Srbijagas – Bajatovic explained.
More than 1,000 kilometers of gas pipeline
The entire linear section from the Turkish coast, through the territory of Turkey, Bulgaria and Serbia, all the way up to Hungary, has been completed, whereby the capacity at the exit from the Black Sea of 15.75 billion cubic meters will be available throughout Central Europe.
The whole route from the Black Sea along the Turkish territory is 130 kilometers long, 498 km belongs to Bulgaria and 403 km to Serbia, whereas the section from the Hungarian border at Horgos to Varosfeld, Hungary, will be around 85 kilometers long.
The annual capacity of the gas pipeline passing through Serbia is around 13 billion cubic meters. The diameter of the gas pipeline is 1,200 mm, and the maximum pressure is 75 bars.
The total value of this project is EUR 1.8 billion.
