The construction of the national training center in Kosutnjak began in the summer of 2019, but, although the plan was for it to be completed in early 2021, last year’s restrictions affected the dynamics of the works and the deadlines. The opening of this modern sports complex is expected by the end of the year, which includes the remaining finishing works, equipping, as well as the obtaining of the necessary permits so that the facility could welcome its first users. The finishing works on the installation of the glass façade are in progress and in the interior there are finishing works on the dividing walls, the installations, the equipping of the toilets etc. A slanted roof featuring greenery, with a total area of over 6,000 squares, available to pedestrians and for recreational use, is being prepared.

The modern training center will be located near the existing Sports and Indoor Pool Center in Kosutnjak, in a facility with a total gross area of 16,200 square meters (basement + two floors, including the ground floor), with specialized features for combat sports. The multifunctional facility will contain training features for wrestling, judo, taekwondo and karate, as well as centers for the associations of shooting sports and sport climbing. The interior organization is designed to enable full autonomy for each of said sports, as well as all the features necessary for the training process at the highest level.

In addition to the separate units for individual sports, the facility will also have a range of common features, such as locker rooms, bathrooms, an outpatient clinic, office space etc. The underground level will feature 145 parking spaces and a shooting range, two combat grounds and a basketball court are planned for the ground floor, whereas the upper floor will feature another two training halls and the accompanying offices, locker rooms etc.

The preliminary design of the new training center in Kosutnjak was prepared by Bauprojekt from Belgrade, and the construction works are carried out by W.D. Concord West. The investment worth EUR 12 million is jointly realized by the Ministry of youth and sport and the Institute for Sports and Sport Medicine of the Republic of Serbia.
