The flood defense infrastructure reconstruction project in the municipalities of Obrenovac and Surcin, financed by the European Union and the Austrian Development Agency, has officially been completed today in the presence of the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Sem Fabrizi, and Austrian Ambassador Nikolaus Luterotti.

The value of the investment is EUR 3.3 million, and the works lasted for two years and were completed within the planned deadline.

The reconstruction included cleaning 66 kilometers of the canal network in Obrenovac and Surcin, refurbishing of 1.2 kilometers of the Kupinac canal in the town of Obrenovac, and complete renovation and increase in capacity of the pumping stations that transfer excess water from the canal to Kolubara.

- Flood defense is now managed from the Srbijavode headquarters through the automated SCADA system donated by the EU, so that the pumps are turned on as soon as the water in the canals reaches a certain level - said the director of that public company, Goran Puzovic.

Fabrizi emphasized that the citizens of Obrenovac will now be able to feel safe, which will allow them to stay in their hometown and work there.
