Kragujevac First in Serbia to Shut Down Coal-based Furnaces and Switch to Gas – Tender for Consultants and Contractors Worth EUR 18 Million in Late May
According to the information, the Ministry of Environmental Protection will use part of the proceeds from the EBRD loan for this project, in two installments. The first one pertains to a sum of 1 to 14 million euros for the replacement of coal-based furnaces with new, natural gas-based furnaces, and the second entails 2 to 4 million euros for the development of the ash disposal site.
The estimated value of the project is EUR 18 million.
The international tender for the project will open on May 31 and include works and consulting services.
Details can be found HERE.
The shutting down of coal-based furnaces was announced in late March by the city authorities of Kragujevac. It was said at the time that old furnaces should be shut down by the end of the year, and that modern furnaces, connected to the gas system, would be installed in their place. The authorities of the city on the Lepenica hope that, with a more favorable price and conditions of payment for a connection, more and more households will opt for gas heating.
Kragujevac would thereby become the first city in Serbia to shut down coal-based furnaces.
