(Illustration) Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and the chairman of the Management Board of Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP), Frane Barbaric, have put the Korlat wind farm near Benkovac into operation.

Next year, the construction of the Korlat solar power plant begins in the same location. Along with the existing wind farm, it will comprise the first renewable hybrid energy park in Croatia. The project is worth 500 million kunas (EUR 6.6 million), and the expected annual production is 170 GWh, which is around 1% of the annual consumption of electricity in Croatia and is sufficient for the supply of over 50,000 households.

The Korlat wind farm is located in the eponymous location, eight kilometers northwest of Benkovac, and spreads on the territories of the cadaster municipalities of Kula Atlagica, Korlat and Gornje Biljane. The power plant consists of 18 wind generators, with an individual installed power of 3.6 MW, delivered, installed and commissioned by the German company Nordex. The construction of the infrastructure and the connection to the network, as well as the monitoring and supervision of the construction, were carried out by Croatian companies Ing-Grand and Fractal. The Korlat wind farm doesn’t have the status of a preferred producer and is the first new wind farm in Croatia to produce electricity without a guaranteed purchase at an incentive price.

Right next to the Korlat wind farm, HEP plans to build a solar power plant with a connection power of 75 MW and an installed power of around 95 MW.

The power plant, which will take up 185 hectares, has a location permit, and after the main project is prepared and the conditions for the obtaining of the building permit are met, the construction might start next year. Once the solar power plant starts working, Korlat will be a unique location for the production of green energy in Croatia and beyond in terms of the total installed power of power plants which use renewable energy sources. The Korlat wind farm and solar power plant will comprise the first renewable hybrid energy park in Croatia.
