The agreement on the partnership, trade and cooperation between Serbia and Great Britain should ensure the continuity of cooperation of the two countries in the widest sense, in both the political and the economic segment, the minister of trade, tourism and telecommunications of Serbia, Tatjana Matic, and the UK minister for exports, Graham Stuart, agreed.

– We are a step away from signing the agreement, which will strengthen out partnership and upgrade the trade relations of Great Britain and Serbia. On the occasion of this visit, I also want to personally congratulate my colleagues in Serbia, who have contributed to the reaching of this agreement – Stuart said after the meeting.

Since January 1, 2021, the Stabilization and Association Agreement between the European Communities and their member states and the Republic of Serbia is no longer the legal basis for the regulation of the bilateral trade between Serbia and Great Britain.

Matic thanked Stuart for the efforts to have the negotiations about the harmonization of the contents of said agreement carried out successfully and reminded of the importance of preserving the previously established level of cooperation in all fields.

According to her, the merchandize trade was doubled in the past ten years and, since 2017, it has exceeded the amount of half a billion euros.

– Considering the good bilateral relations and especially the trade cooperation, which is at a high level, with a potential for further development, the signing of the agreement is the priority for the boosting of the overall cooperation of our two countries and for the continuation and growth of the business activities of exporters and importers without any new charges – she said, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.

Stuart emphasizes that it is his great honor that he is the first British minister for exports in this century to officially visit Serbia, especially in such an important moment for the British-Serbian economic relations.
