Zijin Invests Around USD 700 Million in Former RTB Bor – Continuation of Investments Announced

Since its arrival to Serbia, the Chinese company Zijin has invested around USD 700 million in the former RTB Bor, the company announced. They add that, last year, they invested USD 360 million in the technical reconstruction and expansion of four mines and the smelter in Bor, as well as in numerous projects of safety and environmental protection, that is, ten million more than Zijin paid for a 63% stake in RTB Bor in December 2018.

According to the main engineer, Jiao Jianming, the company will continue investing. It will finish the construction works at the Majdanpek copper mine, the second flotation at the Veliki Krivelj mine, the Jama waste water treatment system, the reconstruction of the Smelter for a capacity of 180 thousand tons of cathode copper a year, with a special focus on a gas filtering system as the priority, the project of disposal of slag flotation, as well as the project of new lime kilns in Zagradje.

– According to the dynamics of the project of the construction of a new flotation, where 40 thousand tons of ore would be processed daily, around 65% of the works has been completed at the Majdanpek copper mine, and the investment is USD 137.7 million. Also, 30% of the works has been carried out according to the dynamics of the project of the construction of another flotation of the Veliki Krivelj mine, in which USD 57.8 million was invested. The reconstruction of a mining system for 2.5 million tons of ore a year, an investment worth USD 19 million, has been completed in Novo Cerovo. At the Jama mine, the works on the “decline” and other works have begun, an investment worth USD 32.3 million. For the purpose of the implementation of the project that would enable the production of 180 thousand tons of cathode copper a year, an all-encompassing reconstruction began at the Bor Smelter in 2020 with the construction of a new desulfuring system and a new electrolysis system. Planned investments in the Bor Smelter, by the end of 2022, amount to USD 262 million – said Jiao Jianming.


He added that a new system of lime kilns in Zagradje and the second section for rock processing at the Krivelj quarry were under construction.
