The delays in the construction of Block 3 at the Thermal Power Plant Kostolac B and the current quality of the works are unacceptable, warned Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Mining and Energy Zorana Mihajlovic in her conversation with the main representative of the Chinese company CMEC, Li Xueqiang, and the general manager of the CMEC office in Serbia, Ren Kailong.

Mihajlovic pointed out that this was one of the biggest construction sites in the energy sector and that the tardiness in the realization of the project was unacceptable, especially when it comes to the slowness of the design and the low quality of the delivered goods, the ministry announced.

– Serbia and China have great relations, primarily thanks to the friendship of our two presidents, Aleksandar Vucic and Xi Jinping. You are not just a company working in Serbia. You also represent your country, which is a great honor and responsibility, just like we represent the citizens of Serbia – Mihajlovic said.

She added that the current pace and the delays regarding the Kostolac B3 project worked in nobody’s favor.

– The Serbian side is there and will not stand on the bylines, simply observing the realization of the project. We will work even harder to help you, but you must also put in the effort to make up for the delays, because the current realization is unacceptable, and there is no compromise regarding the quality – Mihajlovic said.

She insisted on having the monthly project realization rate increased as much as possible, so that a satisfactory level would be reached by July 2021. She also pointed out that the Chinese company needed to comply with the international standards and the obligations defined in the agreement.

Li Xuequang thanks the deputy prime minister of Serbia for the help and support and reminded that large infrastructural projects done during the previous ministry’s mandate had been completed thanks to her efforts, the Ministry of Energy announced.
