Serbian Budget Surplus RSD 13.3 Billion at End-January – Public Debt 53.7% of GDP
The public debt of Serbia was EUR 27.14 billion at the end of January 2021, or 53.7% of the GDP.
The share of the public debt in the GDP was reduced by 3.7% in January compared to December 2020, when it was 57.4%.
Serbian Finance Minister Sinisa Mali stated in late February that the public debt of Serbia was lower than it had been before the pandemic and that it would not grow considerably by the end of the year, which, according to him, “is an incredible success, considering that all the countries in the world have multiplied their public debt due to borrowings during the coronavirus pandemic”.
The Serbian debt is far below the EU limit of 60% of the GDP, as defined by the Maastricht Treaty.
