German Continental’s Factory Opens, Construction of Facility in Kac to Start by End-2022 – Opening of Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Novi Sad Announced for April
Representatives of Continental announced that the new factory would not only produce dashboards and displays for cars, but also smart control systems.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who attended the opening of the factory among numerous officials, said after visiting the factory that it featured advanced technology.
He pointed out that the Development-Research Center in Novi Sad was Continental’s third biggest center when it comes to the number of people, behind Germany and Romania, and ahead of Austria and France.
The new factory of Continental is part of the Human Machine Interface (HMI) business unit, which focuses on vehicle interior products, and the value of the investment is EUR 140 million, as announced on the website of the Government of Serbia.
In Novi Sad, the company has been operating for a full three years within its R&D Center.
According to the director of Continental for Serbia, Sasa Coringa, at the R&D Center, which opened on March 7, 2018, six hundred qualified experts work at the moment, developing the most advanced systems.
Due to the new projects, the training center, laboratories, but also the need for new employments, the company will expand its premises in Novi Sad center by another 1,500 square meters.
– We are ready for innovative technologies – president Vucic emphasized and announced the opening of the first Institute for Artificial Intelligence in April 2021 in Novi Sad.
Mayor Vucevic said that, in the second phase of Continental’s investment, in a true greenfield investment, whose realization is expected by the end of 2022, the company would commence works on the construction of a new factory near Kac.
– The plan is for the new building to have more than 30,000 m2 of production and office space, and 500 new workers should be employed there – Vucevic emphasized, as announced by the PR service of the City of Novi Sad.
