MARCHICK: DFC Not Closing Belgrade Office
Marchick said this on the occasion of the concern expressed by Endy Zemenides, Executive Director of the Hellenic American Leadership Council, that the DFC was reconsidering its presence in northeast Europe and planning to close its office in Belgrade.
In a statement for the Voice of America, Marchick says that the DFC remains committed to supporting the investments in the private sector of Serbia, the Kosovo territory and the wider region and that it keenly awaits to develop the recently renewed initiatives for investments with Belgrade and Pristina.
He is open about his satisfaction that the American development bank has confirmed its dedication to the region.
– The USA should not leave northeast Europe to other economic actors. Considering that the activities of the DFC in the region are limited to energy and large infrastructure projects, it is important to accurately emphasize the consequences that the leaving of such projects might have. The new DFC leadership is dedicated to going to Serbia and Kosovo as soon as the conditions are met for safe travel, considering the pandemic – Marchick said.
The United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is an independent agency of the U.S. government, founded in December 2019 by merging the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) with the Development Credit Authority (DCA) of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
