In the expectation of new city center on right bank of the Ibar - construction of EUR 2m worth of bridge for new business zone in Kraljevo

Construction of a bridge that would lead from Skopljanska Street to Žička Street on the left bank of the Ibar, which was announced last year by the citizens of Kraljevo, has not started yet. However, certain progress has been made because the Directorate Office for Planning and Development of Kraljevo has recently hired Belgrade-based company N-ing to design a preliminary solution and elaborate the main project for the bridge.

For that purpose, the Directorate Office has set aside RSD 3,398,400.

The idea of the city planners, which exists for few years now, is that the construction of this and another road and pedestrian bridge facilitates relocation of the city center to the right bank of the Ibar, which would, practically, result in creation of a new business zone. However, as Dušan Sretović, the manager of the investment sector in Kraljevo's Directorate Office for Planning and Development, explains for eKapija, construction of the bridge costs about EUR 2m, which they have not managed to provide yet.

- It is not realistic to expect that the construction may start this year since we have not collected the funds yet. An access junction about 500 meters away from the existing bridge should be built the first, which is an investment worth between RSD 70m and 80m.

According to his words, half of the funds for the bridge from Skopljanska Street would be provided by the City, while the other half should be obtained from the Ministry for NIP, the European Investment Bank or some other creditor.

Business center instead of residential block

As the Directorate Office's city planner Slaviša Čamagić explained for our web portal, concentration of facilities in the city center is high at the moment, but these facilities are residential and not business ones as it should be.

Construction of the bridge would create an attractive building land because the density of population in that location is currently very low.

The Spatial Plan envisages construction of combined contents on the right bank of the river - business, sport and housing facilities. Unofficially, as certain media have already announced, that is the reason why a number of renowned local and foreign investors eye the parcels in this part of Kraljevo for a long time now.

From the viewpoint of city planning, Čamagić says that a road with four lanes, a bicycle path and a running track is planned to be built on existing Dike.

The new bridge would then make it possible for the space between Skopljanska Street and Olge Jovičić Street to be freed from traffic, which means that the central pedestrian zone would be extended for about 200 meters and that the new pedestrian oasis, surrounded by the Church of Holy Trinity, the Army Center, the Museum and the Archives, would be created.

Automatically, all the pressure created on the other side by the transit traffic from Čibukovac, Military settlement, part of Jarčujak and Stara čaršija to Ribnica, Kovači, Beranovac and Žiča, would disappear.

Third road bridge in Military settlement

The idea about the construction of the third road bridge in Military settlement, which can still be seen on the city plans, has not been rejected yet. That bridge, which would go from the underpass to primary school "Čibukovački Partizani", would enable better functioning of the bridge in Skopljanska Street because it would accept whole transit from Čibukovac, Military settlement, Jarčujak, villages from the old road to Čačak, and even from Konarevo to Ribnica and Beranovac, which would make Kraljevo the city with the biggest number of traffic rings.
