The claim that we are the best in Europe in environmental protection is easily disproven by the ecological disasters that marked the beginning of 2021. An enormous degree of pollution of cities in Serbia, the waste floating down the Lim and the Drina and an even worse situation in the south – with hundreds of illegal landfills… Our list of the most read articles in 2020 when it comes to ecology focuses on the same topics – water and air, a bit.

The first spot belongs to the new that Belgrade is to get a waste water treatment facility. The construction of a facility for the directing and filtering of waste waters in Belgrade is a capital project, and the works are to begin this autumn. The agreement was signed with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC).

The news about the waste incinerator in Vinca placed second on our list. This project was marked as a priority a long time ago and now there are no longer any obstacles to the construction, because the Ministry of Environmental Protection approved the amended environmental impact study a week ago.

The third spot belong to the list of the cities where water filtering facilities are to be built. The Ministry of Environmental Protection, together with the local self-governments, has prepared the project-technical documentation for the construction of 29 waste water treatment facilities with a sludge line and 11 for the construction of facilities for the treatment of municipal waste.

The fifth spot belongs to the news that Eko Unija SM plans to build a foundry and facility for processing municipal waste into synthetic gas.

The sixth place on our list features the TPP Kostolac and the facilities for the desulfuring of smoke gases and the treatment of waste waters. In October 2020, the PE Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) opened the tender for the service of preparation of project documentation for these two facilities at the blocks A1 and A2 at the TPP Kostolac.
